1/19/2009 "Weird Things Happen To Me" Comedy By Chonda PierceSea Prayer wrote a blog with a link to a funny comedy piece. I so enjoyed it that I remembered running across this comedy video and saving it as a draft. Chonda Pierce “just may be the best kept secret in entertainment, a comedian with a firm hold on the heartland of America who is quickly gaining acclaim in other arenas as well. In addition to churches, fairs and theaters, she has been one of the most popular speakers at the Women of Faith conferences, Extraordinary Women Conferences just to name a few.” (From her website) Quote
Hope you enjoy! 12/7/2008 Shivelry
Shivelry is a story about love, loneliness and a quest for happiness. It's a story of self-sacrifice, a story demonstrating the lengths to which one will go to for love. Most of all, it's a story everyone can relate to.
12/5/2008 I can't help myself...I can't help myself, he's just so darn cute! 'The Tale of Despereaux' Little know fact about me, I have collected mice figurines since high school. Charming Tails is one of my favorite collections. Not a Christmas goes by when I don't receive at least on mouse for the collection. I have a shadow box with mini figurines that is full of them. I'm actually more like a mouse than I am like rosebay. Sounds like my niece and nephew are going to see a movie soon...
Charming Tails - See ya later alligator 9/20/2008 Sunken GardensLast weekend we went to the botanical garden - Sunken Gardens. My grandmother took me there often when I was a child. It has been over 20 years since I have been there. Funny how you never go to the attractions that are in your own back yard. It took us over an hour to go through the whole place. You may be familiar with the common house plant, pathos - the leaves on them at the garden were HUGE, I mean about a foot across, and I thought mine were big (a bit larger than my hand). It has been an landmark in our city since 1935. Originally a lake that was 15 feet below the street, George Turner bought it, drained it, brought in soil and began planting. He brought in plants from all over the world. It was a beautiful place, mostly shaded - therefore, most pictures did not come out. But a few did. The Gardens currently contain over 500 species of tropical and subtropical plants amidst pools and cascading waterfalls, lushly planted in a collection of more than 50,000 tropical plants and flowers. They include a Japanese garden, cactus garden, and butterfly garden, and Chilean flamingos. Plants include bougainvilleas, royal palms, water lilies, shrimp planta, and fruit trees. The garden atmosphere is peaceful and many of the plants are quite large (compared to typical specimens) due to their long history of protection and cultivation. Me playing hide and seek - You found me.
Frogs on lily pads
Now that my plants are taking over the walkway, maybe the gardens want some to plant. You can see that they are reaching over six feet tall. I planted them when they were a foot high and a foot apart a year and a half ago. It is a constant task to thin them out and trim them away from the walkway. If I knew they were going to grow that fast, I may have chosen something else BUT they are beautiful. And they offer some privacy for me from the pool. Oh Lizzie-Beth - this is for you. They are not easy critters to get a good photo of. Well I hope you enjoyed our trip to the Gardens. It was a great day. Heading out for a blog walk. See you in the comments.
8/17/2008 Weekend of indulgenceSo it is Sunday morning and I have nothing planned for today- love it! Weekends have been crammed with going and doing that I am enjoying doing - well... not much at all. I indulged yesterday and it felt good!!! Started with my favorite pizza. I love pizza, all pizza. I went to Mexico once and found the only Italian restaurant run by a little Italian lady just so I could have pizza, So you get my point. This is a new pizza I have been getting, spinach Alfredo with bacon, mushrooms and tomatoes, mmmmm. I know it may not sound appealing to some but it is wonderful. I'm not much into chocolate but this one candy bar is dark chocolate, pecan pralines and toffee, I ate half. To top it all off, Salt and Vinegar chips and Bud Light. Throw in some great movies, a thunderstorm and my constant companion and it made a great day. Let's talk movies. I have three currently - Definitely, Maybe - a cute story. Father tells his 10 year old daughter the story of meeting her mom. He makes it a mystery romance story and keeps her guessing to the end only to realize he still loves the mom. I could watch this with my niece and not be embarrassed and she would enjoy it.
Then there was The Great Debaters - excellent story of a group of college kids in Texas in 1935. Based on a true story, the film takes us to Wiley, an African-American Methodist college in Texas during the Depression. It addressed racism and the "Jim Crow Laws" were in effect In the Southern US, requiring "separate but equal" facilities for Blacks and Whites. The best speech was that we have to start today to stop racism, we can't wait until tomorrow and it is everyone of us that counts in this fight. Ok so that is my version. Just look at how far we have come in the 45 years I've been around. Denzel Washington and Forest Whitaker were excellent (as always). Denzel Whitker was one of the debaters and you could see the resemblance to his father in his eyes.
Ok so now go watch it!!!! This is a must see movie!
I don't want to give any details on the movie but here's the challenge - write your bucket list. You know, the things you want to do before you kick the bucket. Now don't make me start a tag game out of this. I'm working on mine. To be published soon. Let me know when you post yours. 11/15/2006 Fruitcake LadyREMEMBERING THE FRUITCAKE LADY 1911 - 2006 We're saddened to announce the passing of Marie Rudisill, our beloved "Fruitcake Lady."
